Feasibility Funds Available to Support Community Library Projects

The Social Investment Business has launched the Community Ownership and Management of Assets (including Right to Bid) grants programme. Grants are available to organisations wanting to take up opportunities under the new Right to Bid or in relation to the pursuit of an asset transfer from a public body.

Speak Up For Libraries conference - 10 November

The day-long event will pull together library campaigners and supporters from across the UK and give them the opportunity to build on their existing campaigning skills and tactics, share ideas and strategies, and focus on a way forward to make their local campaign as effective as possible, with the goal of ensuring library services are supported and protected, now and in the future.

One year on

It's been almost a year since we launched the Community Knowledge Hub and began building a network of community managed and supported libraries. It’s fair to say that predictions that we would see a big increase in interest in community management were on the mark– with up to date figures expected this Autumn – and, looking ahead, more local authorities are expected to press ahead with plans to transfer the management of library services to communities over the coming year.

Belsize Community Library is a newly independent library in Antrim Grove, London NW3. When Camden Council’s funding ceased the library was closed and The Winchester Project, a local children’s charity stepped in to take management of the library.

Arts Council England announces £6 million additional Lottery funding for libraries

The Arts Council for England have announced an additional £6 million of National Lottery-funded Grants for the arts that will be available to libraries from September 2012. This fund will support projects that stimulate ambitious and innovative partnerships between libraries and artists and/or arts organisations, encouraging communities to participate in cultural activities.
