Public library services report – Locality’s submission

Public library services report – Locality’s submission

Posted by Anton Schultz  |  31st Mar 2014
Locality has submitted its response to the independent report on the public libraries service in England.

The report has been commissioned from philanthropist, entrepreneur and publisher William Sieghart by Culture Minister Ed Vaizey and Local Government Minister Brandon Lewis.

The report has been jointly commissioned by the Culture Department and the Department for Communities and Local Government. Mr Sieghart will lead an expert panel to take evidence and report to ministers by the end of the year. Key questions for the panel to address include:

What are the core principles of a public library into the future?
Is the current model of delivery the most comprehensive and efficient? and
What is the role of community libraries?

Locality has submitted evidence based on the experiences of our members, many of whom have long-standing relationships with local library services, as well as on the in-depth work we have carried out over the past few years with 10 local authorities and 50+ community groups to establish a dedicated community managed library network which nowadays benefits from over 250 members.
